A fresh ST:ART

Tara Reddy writes:

We are ST:ART creative learning adventures… a co-operative of local mixed media artists including Dee Sharpe, Amanda Jobson, Miranda Sharp and Tara Reddy.

We came together after being individually selected by ESCC to work as Artists on an Educational Project implementing Creativity and Risk Taking into Early Learning Environments. The Project was a great success and highlighted the need and importance of Art in the Development Stages of Early Learning and Educational Environments.

ST:ART was set up to continue this work with Schools and other Community Groups. Using the Reggio Emilio Method which is a child led approach we help create individual learning  plans within education environments allowing the child to take risks, discover and exlore and develop a more confident approach to learning.

St.art Creative Learning Adventures St Leonards Festival Education Play

At St Leonards Festival, despite the weather the Show went on and the children had a great time with our Creative Story Workshops!

On the day we ran a workshop based upon a Child led Story about Aliens crash landing in Warrior Square.. encouraging the children to create a living story board …

Who the Aliens were, what they looked like, what they did and how they travelled and how they communicated depended on the childrens ideas.

Using Recycled Materials, the children designed and made alien masks and rockets and together we created a large rocket/space ship as a collaborative effort to create props for the story.

We also made percussion musical instruments for an Alien Space Party Celebrating that they all decided to stay on Planet Vladamir Warrior Square as the vote was that it was really a fabulous place to live!…

The children created the story with our help and it WAS A FANTASTIC LEARNING ADVENTURE for all involved!

Play is a serious business and a lack of play opportunities for children is becoming a form of deprivation, according to play national organisations.

All too often the subject of play has been trivialised, consigned to local newspaper …
