For those of you who aren’t familiar with Transition Town Hastings: the group was established to respond to the challenges of climate change, over-dependence on fossil fuels and economic instability; to support affiliated groups; to provide practical examples of sustainable living; to promote knowledge-sharing, raise awareness and encourage community participation and well-being. The Hastings Greenway Project is an innovative network of linked almost traffic-free routes, that everyone can enjoy for leisure, amenity and utility walking, as well as cycling. Starting at Hastings Town Centre the Greenway will run 10 miles to Ore, Silverhill, Hollington & Mayfield and the Conquest Hospital. Here’s news of what’s coming up:

Secret garden plan

Award leads to ‘secret garden’

Hastings-based support charity Education Futures Trust (EFT) were recently given a boost when they were chosen by Sussex Lund to receive an award.  The funds have been allocated to a new project at The Firs with plans to create a ‘secret garden’ for local families to enjoy.

HFS's Thrift Fest

Thrift Fest success

Approx 1,000 people attended and participated in Thrift Fest, the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Hastings Furniture Service on 22 September 2018 at the Hastings Centre. Thrift Fest gathered the local groups, clubs and organisations that are helping people live active, rich, creative, fulfilled lives without costing the earth to provide a day of activities for local families.

Rubbish Bingo for all the family

On Tuesday 29 May, the St Leonards seafront gift and book shop, OPEN by I Love Mel, is getting down and dirty on the beach with a spot of Rubbish Bingo. Come on down and join Mel, Alice and the Rubbish Bingo Teams between 5 and 7pm on the St Leonards seafront.

Hastings Old Town walks away with the prize

Hastings Old Town was presented with the first ever Britain’s Best Walking Neighbourhood Award on Wednesday 16 May after winning a public vote to find the very best urban area for going about everyday life on foot. Erica Smith put on her walking boots and strode over to find out more.
