Steam Punk Morris -musician and dancer

Morris dancing has always been linked in my mind to village greens, half-timbered pubs selling real ale, cricket matches – the general rural idyll that is now largely preserved in the stockbroker belt.  As a result, it has acquired a sort of UKIP tinge in my mind – red-cheeked men singing Rule Britannia and waving Union Jacks.  Then there’s all that handkerchief waving and general fol-de-rol.  It’s a bit like buying free range eggs in Waitrose – being in touch with the earth without getting your hands dirty, writes Antony Mair.

What’s on the menu, Timberlina?

Timberlina is hard to ignore… a giant drag queen with fantastic legs and a beard. HOT’s Erica Smith asked some mean questions about Rye and other things…

White Rock Theatre - Antony Mair

Vienna Festival Ballet at the White Rock Theatre

The White Rock Theatre is not a mainstream cultural haven, being given over mostly to musical events at the lower end of the highbrow scale, alternating with stand-up comedy.  But we went along to see the Vienna Festival Ballet perform Sleeping Beauty last night, on the basis that classical music needs to be supported, writes Antony Mair .
