The Hive: A Circle of Sisters

The Hive is a new, rapidly growing group for self-identified women in Hastings. Founded by Sarah Bullock, a veritable powerhouse of embodied creative energy, it meets weekly on Tuesday evenings at St Mary in the Castle. HOT’s Xaverine M A Bates tells us more.

People’s tapestry inaugurated in St Clement’s

The Hastings 950 People’s Tapestry was inaugurated at the weekend with a blessing in St Clement’s church in the Old Town. Launched in April, the initiative  has proved enormously popular, and many panels have still to be returned and mounted. Nick Terdre reports. Photos by Simon Hennessey.

Battle Festival offers literary and visual delights

The third annual Battle Festival is officially underway this week after launching last weekend with the world premiere of brand new opera, PUSH, in collaboration with Glyndebourne Opera. “PUSH was a thrilling way to launch the festival”, says Sally Lampitt, Festival Director, “paving the way for a month of exciting international arts in Battle, with something for everyone.”

Dedicated Creative Quarter at Claremont?

A few weeks ago I raised the possibility via the Yahoo group Hastings Creatives, of establishing an Open Studios weekend in Claremont, inspired by a similar event in Folkestone. Subsequently, I have explored the potential to establish Claremont as a Creative Quarter in a more formal way. Why? Is this even possible? Richard de Pesando reports.
