Hastings Girls Bare All!
The cast of a production of Calendar Girls that will be shown at The Stables Theatre in Hastings, have posed for a calendar to coincide with the play and to raise funds for St Michael’s Hospice. And HOT is looking for a qualified theatre critic to write on local drama productions (including Calendar Girls!), writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.
The play, which tells the story of a group of women who pose for a calendar to raise funds for charity in memory of a dear friend, will be directed by Nicky Harris. Nicky said, “From someone who has been touched by cancer, I know how important it is to be doing something positive and this is one of the things that drew me to this play. It is very funny, well written and has a real message. I loved the film and when I saw the play, I knew I wanted to direct it.”
The cast have received great support from other organisations to assist with the production of the calendar, including Caravelle Creations Ltd,
Eastbourne Electrical LLP and Peter Mould Theatre Photography. Each has provided financial and creative support to make the calendar possible and to help maximise the funds to be raised for St Michael’s. (HOT reporter Chris would have been up for a bit of ‘creative support’, but unfortunately was not invited!)
Nicky continued, “I am so pleased that I have been able to get support from those organisations and to be able to gather the most wonderful cast together. I’m grateful that there are so many women around who are ready to ‘get their kit off’ in front of an audience as well as for a calendar from which all the proceeds will go to St Michael’s Hospice.”
Calendar Girls will be performed at The Stables Theatre from 1–9 February 2013, and you will no doubt be close enough to see the goose pimples! Copies of the calendar, which would make ideal Christmas gifts, are available from all St Michael’s Hospice shops and also from the Hospice itself priced just £5.
