Guys and Dolls in aid of St Michael’s Hospice
Renaissance Theatre Company has been performing as a group since 2009 when they came together in memory of two very special friends, Sandra Woodhams and Sharon Guy Waller, who sadly passed away that year. Since then they have performed two concerts at The Phoenix Venue and a further three musicals. Their aim is to continue with a production every year and to support the chosen charities, St Michael’s Hospice, in memory of Sandra, and the Shazzie Sparkle Trust, in memory of Sharon. Tuula Ward writes.
In total, since 2009, Renaissance Theatre Company is extremely proud to have contributed and raised in excess of £27,100 for St Michael’s Hospice and hopes this figure will keep going up with the support of their wonderful audiences, members and friends.
This year Renaissance Theatre Company will be performing the wonderful and well-loved musical Guys and Dolls. Here’s an outline of the story: Nathan Detroit (played by Dave Wellman) is desperate: he needs money for an illegal dice game – and he needs it fast. Not to mention a 14-year engagement with night‑club singer Miss Adelaide (Kim Sutton), whose patience is finally running out. Enter notorious gambler Sky Masterson (Luke Baxter), a guy who can never turn down a bet – and straight‑laced missionary Sarah Brown (Sherri Ann Fido), a doll with a heart of ice. The wager? Sky has to romance Sarah by taking her to Havana for dinner and in return he’ll provide a dozen ‘sinners’ for Sarah’s mission. Surely this is one bet Nathan absolutely can’t lose?
Featuring a score packed with some of Broadway’s finest tunes, including Luck Be a Lady, Sit Down You’re Rockin’ The Boat and My Time Of Day, this promises to be a fantastic production from a well-loved local theatre company.
