Songwriters On The Stade

On Saturday 11th August the Stade Open Space will play host to The 2nd Annual Lantern Society Songwriters Festival, where Trevor Moss & Hannah-Lou will be presenting the finest original songwriters to have graced their now legendary, Hastings and London, Lantern Society acoustic club stages.

Originally founded in Farringdon over ten years ago, they established the sister club in Hastings in January last year at The Printworks on Claremont Road and have been drawing capacity audiences every first Thursday of the month ever since. With a focus on championing original songwriters, the club is also the home of the Lantern Society Radio Hour, made of live recordings direct from the club, which broadcasts on Conquest Hospital Radio and online.

“We founded the Lantern Society as a place where original songwriters could come to be artists, rather than salesmen,” says Trevor Moss. “To be, rather than to be seen. We’d trawled the streets of London looking for a club of likeminded musicians and couldn’t find it, so we made it.”

Over the years everyone from fledgling performers to platinum selling recording artists, from all over the world, have sung under their bunting – and the very finest have been selected to perform at the now annual Stade Saturday event.

Highlights include: the internationally acclaimed folk/Americana super-group, Bennett Wilson Poole; ‘Britain’s greatest contemporary fingerstyle guitarist’ (Guitar Quarterly), Jason McNiff; local bluesman, Pepe Belmonte and his band; Floridian troubadour, Robert Chaney; Swedish finger-picking sensation, Benjamin Folke Thomas; the hosts themselves and many many more.

“It’s a real pleasure to be able to present to the town the very best songwriters we’ve come across,” says Hannah-Lou. “We could have filled a weekend so it’s going to be a packed day. Come grab a deck chair, relax and be transported. It’s going to be a day full of wonderful words and memorable melodies, tales, travels and emotions. Just great songs, by great songwriters.”
