Winter Wonderland with a difference!

Many of you will have met Talullah, the twelve-foot-high mermaid who cheerfully makes an annual appearance at Jack in the Green. Now her creators, Radiator Arts, have come indoors – the weather’s getting cold – and will be hosting a totally unique event in the Stade Hall. HOT reporter and Radiator Arts member, Cathy Simpson, hops onto a snow plough and reveals more.

The event is called Snowline, and consists of a series of interactive installations, where visitors will be guided along a path to visit them all.

Not-so-mythical Radiator Artists, Jennie and Joy, proudly advertising Snowline to the goodly folks of Hastings.

It explores traditional winter myths, rituals and folk tales from around the world – but is something of an antidote to Christmas as we often experience it these days. No Christmas pop songs or overpriced decorations; but there will be fantastical lighting effects, wonderful sound tracks, costumed figures and sculptures including a giant iceberg, giant trees, a winter garden and much, much more.

Illustrator Rowena O’Reilly describes it as “An ethereal and somewhat primal reminder of what the shortening of days and inexorable, creeping chill of winter once meant for many communities.”

Individual Radiator artists and volunteers have created works specifically for the project, but it also includes work done by the public at creative workshops in local schools and other educational settings – including Sussex Coast College Hastings;

there was a focused drive really to involve the community in this ambitious Community Arts project, as participants, as well as audience.

Everyone is warmly invited to come along and experience Snowline for themselves!

Snowline is open to the public on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st December 2014, from 11am to 5pm.
