Looking forward to Jerwood’s exhibitions

We’re all eager to know what wonderful things will be on view at the Jerwood Gallery.

Jerwood have now outlined some principles for a two-part exhibition programme, divided roughly between their standing collection of established master-works, and the fruits of Jerwood Visual Arts whose awards, exhibitions and events support and celebrate newcomers working in various disciplines (drawing, painting, sculpture and making).

The Jerwood Arts Collection will be on permanent display, rehung regularly on a thematic basis. New purchases will be shown alongside the highlights of the collection that includes works by L.S.Lowry, Stanley Spencer, Terry Frost, Maggi Hamling and Prunella Clough.

The gallery will also host around six exhibitions a year showing emerging artists from around Britain, a showcase for Jerwood’s selection of the rising stars in contemporary arts.

Other exhibitions will be specially curated for the gallery, and might include the work of local artists selected and curated directly, rather than emerging through the Jerwood Visual Arts process, and involving other arts organisations such as Artangel, the National Portrait Gallery and the Crafts Council.
