Summer Fun at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery

HOT family correspondent and intrepid Mum, Vanessa Alves, wants to spread the word about what’s happening locally during the school holidays. Here she writes about Hastings Museum and Art Gallery quickly becoming a safe haven for her family: “a lovely place to go, wandering around the collections, all very child friendly with lots of things for kids to dress-up in, colour-in and explore”.

Guided nature walks

Anton Hack from Heart of Hastings has organised more woodland walks in Ore Valley, involving specialists on the field of trees, herbs, foraging and birds. As you’ll see from David Young’s photos from the last walk, the area is beautiful, yet another of the hidden natural areas in this area.

Hastings Hawaiian connection

Students from the University of Hawaii recently paid a visit to Hastings. They were in England to study archives relating to an education programme instigated by King Kalakaua. The Mayor of Hastings, Cllr Nigel Sinden, along with Friends of Hastings Cemetery members Anne Scott and Marylin Saklatval, were on hand to greet them on arrival, later accompanying them to visit the grave of Dr Matthew Everard Puakahakoililanimanuia Makalua, who is buried at Hastings Cemetery.

Songwriters On The Stade

On Saturday 11th August the Stade Open Space will play host to The 2nd Annual Lantern Society Songwriters Festival, where Trevor Moss & Hannah-Lou will be presenting the finest original songwriters to have graced their now legendary, Hastings and London, Lantern Society acoustic club stages.

Javad: court case update

Here’s the latest update to Javad’s case, the young autistic man and his unofficial guardians and supporters, Terry and Stuart, who have taken Javad into their home and hearts, offering him a stable environment and a place to settle, whilst he fights for his right to stay in the UK. Terry has written to HOT’s Zelly Restorick about Javad’s court case.

Protection for Hastings harbour arm

The Hastings Harbour Arm is a very important structure on the Hastings frontage, which retains beach material that protects the town from flooding. Ongoing works are encasing the existing Hastings Harbour Arm in armour rock to help protect the Arm from further deterioration.

Hotel becomes a gallery space for local artists

Premier Inn today announces its support for arts charity, Project Art Works, which will result in eight pieces of previously unseen artwork being displayed on the walls of a number of Premier Inn hotels.
