At the January Hastings Debates, Clare Moseley, founder of Care4Calais, spoke about the current desperate situation on the ground for refugees in Calais. Professor Sue Clayton (Goldsmiths University) concluded the talk with an introduction to her award winning investigative film Calais Children: A Case To Answer. Next week, on March 28th, Professor Clayton returns to Hastings for a full screening of the film, with Q and A following. Felicity Laurence from Hastings Supports Refugees writes.
An exciting new event showcasing local women in music, all proceeds of which will support Child.org, an international development charity focused on helping mothers and children in Africa, is being launched on Friday 20 April at Blackmarket in Hastings Old Town. The Electric Palace, the independent cinema in the heart of Hastings Old Town has joined forces with East Sussex charity, Care for the Carers and local arts organisation, Project Art Works to create a special double bill film event, featuring the new film, DINA alongside short film, THE MASK on Sunday 1 April at 8pm.

Locally run publishing group Earlyworks Press is about to launch their latest book of competition winners’ short stories, The Sorcery of Smog. Earlyworks produces anthologies of poetry and fiction by writers who have been successful in their competitions, as well as work by members of their club and their associates. Open to all, the competitions attract work of a high standard from across the English-speaking world. HOT’s Zelly Restorick asked Kay Green about Earlyworks origins and her vision.
