Hands On: collect your artwork!

Zoom Arts are running a 2 day event, showing the work produced at a workshop for children they ran in the summer. Go along and see the show and if you – or someone you know – took part in the workshop, your creation will be ready for collection. Susan Cleland of Zoom Arts writes.

Old pier remembered

The site of the now almost-forgotten St Leonards Pier has been highlighted by a display board telling its story in words and pictures. Local historian, Steve Peak had the idea of marking the pier’s site while researching his book A Pier Without Peer on the history of Hastings Pier, published by Peter Owen Publishers.

Formative Films Season at Electric Palace

Was David Bailey the inspiration for the central character in the film Blow Up? Style guru, lecturer, author and photographer Ted Polhemus provides his viewpoint, as the first special guest to share his choice of influential film in a new Formative Film season at the Electric Palace cinema in Hastings Old Town. Starting this Friday 20 October, Polhemus will present Michaelangelo Antonioni’s 1966 iconic film, Blow Up, a countercultural masterpiece set in the streets of swinging London. Annie Waite speaks with the social commentator Polhemus about why the “film about style which gets just about every element of styling spot on” changed his life.

Comic Relief sponsored crowd fund for Seaview

As one of Comic Relief’s core grant holders, Seaview has been offered the challenge that if within 6 weeks they can raise £2,536.50 through an active crowdfunding campaign for a project that they endorse that they will release a matching grant of £2,536.50.

Got an old bike soon to be replaced? Bike Lab Hastings, the open access, free workshop that takes place every Wednesday evening from 6 – 8pm at the Labyrinth space on the Lower Promenade, has kids bikes for you for a small donation – and DESPERATELY needs your unwanted bicycles and bike bits!
