And at 84 years old, Sir Quentin is as prolific as ever. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went on foot to see his biggest ever UK show of recent pictures, The Only Way To Travel at the Jerwood Gallery.
You will be familiar with the creative endeavours of Thom Kofoed, local resident, part of the team at St Mary’s in the Castle and committed and determined artist, poet and writer. He and his partner, John Murray, have now created a weekly newsletter of their work – including poetry, prose and illustrations. They’ve both invested a huge amount of time and energy in developing their creativity – and now they’re sharing their work with you. HOT’s Zelly Restorick writes.
Beaches in Hastings have been recognised for their high quality. Marina Beach in St Leonards has been awarded both the coveted Blue Flag and the Seaside Award, and Pelham Beach in Hastings has received the Seaside Award. The awards recognise and reward beaches in England that achieve the highest standards of beach management and, in the case of bathing beaches, meet water quality guidelines.
Education Futures Trust, the Hastings based family support charity, will hold their annual fundraising auction on Friday 30 June, raising vital funds to help those in need. The Auction of Promises will be hosted by auctioneer, Paul Howard and will be held at Hastings United Social Club. Hastings United FC has kindly donated the venue and staff services for the evening.
Registration for The Big Sleep, the annual sponsored sleep-out raising funds for the Seaview Project, is now open. The Seaview Project’s sponsored mass sleep-out returns to The Stade this September, raising awareness and funds for some of the town’s most vulnerable people.

Hastings Pier is delighted to announce, not only a whopping line up of over 54 acts for Zooquarium festival on Saturday 15 July – Rat Boy is headlining – but also a selection of quality comperes including the wonderful Doon MacKichan, sister of local musical hero, Blair and uber famous in her own right for ‘Smack the Pony’ and ‘The Borrowers’.
Energise Sussex Coast is bidding to bag a massive cash boost for its ‘Science Lab on the Beach’ project from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. This really is an excellent community organisation, who are doing all they can to reduce local fuel poverty and develop local community energy, so that the benefits stay within Hastings and St Leonards.
