Countryside lovers protest against Rother go-ahead for another Sea Change road

In the wake of the recent approval given by Hastings Borough Council for the Queensway Gateway road, Rother District Council have given the green light for another Sea Change Sussex road-building project, the North Bexhill Access Road. Combe Haven Defenders (CHD) invited local residents to show their love for the countryside and protest the latest loss of green space, as they report.

Music? Judge for yourself

HOT’s brave new music reporter, David Pullen, has been invited by the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition to write a blog about this wonderful competition that kicks off next Thursday, 25 February. Energy source tug o’war

Local residents staged a ‘Climate Tug Of War’ in the town centre, urging Hastings Borough Council to divest from oil, coal and gas investments and choose renewable, sustainable alternatives. The Tug Of War, between fossil fuel industries and the earth’s climate, was part of a new local campaign, Fossil Free Hastings, which aims to get East Sussex County Council (ESCC) to divest its £172 million of investments in the oil, coal and gas industries [1]. Please don’t mention the width of West Street

Do you know where West Street is? It is a narrow road sandwiched between George Street and East Parade in Hastings Old Town, an area where the buildings are mostly listed. Planning decisions should take into account the circumstances of the locale, a reasonable person might suppose. In West Street this has proved not to be the case, to the detriment of local residents, whose attempts to have the situation corrected have been ignored. Richard Price reports.

Tributes paid to Cllr John Hodges

Tributes have been paid to Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council member John Hodges who died last week at the age of 70.
