Get ready for a bumper week of music-related entertainment at the Electric Palace cinema. From Thursday 5 February until Sunday 8 February 2015 the independent Hastings cinema will be rockin’ out with its first ever Alternative Music Film Week, writes Annie Waite.

Extra funding requested for link road

Extra funds are required for the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road – they are included in the draft budget which East Sussex County Council will vote on next month. Meanwhile the opening of the road has been indefinite

Winter warmer with Winston

Hastings composer Polo Piatti will be premiering the piano and orchestra version of his composition Broad, Sunlit Uplands with the Hastings Sinfonia on the last Saturday in January. He dedicated this composition to the London branch of the famous Winkle Club, having conceived the music with former club-member Winston Churchill in mind, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Piano delight

The 2014 Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition was of such a high standard that the first three finalists all have the potential to make glittering careers for themselves, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack. This Saturday  you have the opportunity to take in a recital given by finalist Marcin Koziak from Poland and warm yourself with some mulled wine in the refined surroundings of the Recital Room at Fairlight Hall.

Generally the British tend not to explore or display their emotions in any great depth. Anger can seem ugly, love soft, sadness a sense of  disintegration while some feelings are avoided altogether.
