Students shine at Fairtrade fashion show

Fairtrade wants better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. While the Fairtrade Foundation is better known for its work with coffee, chocolate and banana producers, it also champions the cotton industry, and to highlight this we were recently treated to an evening of fashion.

Focus on Palestinian prisoners

People often ask: where is the Palestinian Mandela / Gandhi / Martin Luther King? The answer is that they are mostly murdered or imprisoned, just as Mandela, Gandhi and King were, explains the Hastings Palestinian Solidarity group.

Link road archeology exhibitions opens

An exhibition on the archeological investigations along the route of the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road has opened at Bexhill Museum. The display shows the archaeologists’work in progress, where they are digging and what they have found so far, East Sussex County Council reports. The selection of archaeological finds has objects dating from just after the last Ice Age up to the Saxon period.

Nick Perry, the LibDem candidate

Last Saturday, the Hastings & Rye Liberal Democrat Association met to re-select Nick Perry as their parliamentary candidate. Nick was first selected seven years ago, during which time he and his partner, Ruth, have raised two daughters now aged six and three. Nick started his career 15 years ago in frontline Health and Social Care. He continues to work in community mental health services, based in Hastings town centre – and to live on the West Hill with Ruth and the girls. HOT’s Chris Cormack invited Nick to tell HOT readers what his three main ambitions for Hastings are.
