Tapestry - Philip Terry

Tapestry – a review

There was a buzz in the atmosphere at the first Reality Street readings and music event at the Electric Palace on Wednesday 19th February 2014.  Local writer, Leigh Kennedy went along to listen and to ask Philip Terry about his novel, Tapestry, a mixture of the comic and tragic in post-1066 England.

Solar energy projects rolling in Bexhill

Innovative energy projects are under way at Glenleigh Park Primary Academy in Sidley and Bexhill Youth and Community Centre, with the introduction of solar power generation as a main aim – not to mention the educative benefits as the projects are implemented. Nick Terdre reports.

Link road: what’s to like about it?

Proponents of the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road argue that it will relieve traffic congestion on the Bexhill Road and help create new jobs. Andrea Needham of the anti link road group Combe Haven Defenders begs to differ.

Runway Walk West

Figures in the landscape

International Women’s Day on Saturday 8 March couldn’t have been a better day – blue skies, sun and light winds – for  RUNWAY’s Walking West from Hastings to Bexhill. Organised by Roz Cran and Sharon Haward, this was the fifth initiative by Artists Without Studios, creating photographs of figures in the landscape. Dressed in black, as instructed, HOT reporter Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went along for the walk.

Poor United Suffer Third Consecutive Defeat

A 1-0 defeat away to Tooting and Mitcham, an abysmal performance away at Walton and Hersham on Saturday saw United suffer back-to-back defeats for the second time this season. With the words of Terry White still ringing in the players ears, United faced Chipstead, who they beat by a single goal on the opening day of the season. United were hoping to correct the wrongs and gain three points on this Monday evening, and with a full squad available, there’s no reason why they couldn’t. Liam Willis reports.

Kathleen Fox: Portrait (of a rather self-effacing woman)

Hastings Arts Forum: Stains and traces – the figure revisited.

This intriguing exhibition features the work of ten artists, each with a highly individual response to the subject matter, and is by turns macabre, disturbing and amusing. The predictable response to the human figure – the drawing from life class – is largely absent; when it does appear, it’s apparent that the figure is a springboard for a different kind of exploration. HOT reporter Cathy Simpson spent some time in contemplation.
